This FAQ document is intended for employers interested in hosting interns through the First Nations Technology Council (FNTC) Career Pathway Internship Program. It outlines what participating employers can expect before, during, and after an internship term.

General Program Information

What are Internship Placements?

Internship Placements are paid, employer-hosted opportunities supported by FNTC. The program is designed to financially support eligible employers while connecting them with skilled talent to meet workforce needs across technology-enabled roles and capacities. These placements provide First Nations learners and alumni with hands-on, career-relevant experience, complemented by wraparound mentorship and culturally grounded support.

Who can host an intern?

Indigenous and non-Indigenous employers, businesses, and organizations across British Columbia that are able to offer meaningful, supervised work experiences in technology, digital, or innovation-related roles are encouraged to apply.

What terms are available?

Placements are typically 16 weeks in duration. Interns will participate between 25 - 37.5 hours per week. Internship terms are offered during:

  • Summer: May to August.
  • Fall: September to December.
  • Winter: January to May.

The First Nations Technology Council conducts employer outreach and confirms potential host organizations well in advance of each term, typically about two months prior. Employers wishing to host an intern should connect with us at least two months before the start of the term to ensure adequate planning and consideration.

Employer Participation

How do employers get involved?

FNTC conducts employer outreach and engagement prior to each internship term. Potential host organizations are identified for upcoming periods (for example, Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and Summer 2026). Employers may express interest by emailing pathways@technologycouncil.ca

Do employers need to recruit interns themselves?

Intern recruitment and application management are coordinated by FNTC. Employers are matched with interns who are FNTC students and graduates of one or more FNTC programs, with training in various digital skill areas. Employers can review candidate profiles and collaborate with the program team throughout the selection process.

When do intern applications open?

Applications typically open approximately two to three months before the start of each internship term. FNTC promotes opportunities through alumni networks and targeted outreach.
