A pathway into tech doesn't end when a course is complete. For Indigenous learners, the next step often depends on whether employers are ready to recognize their skills, support their growth, and build workplaces where Indigenous talent can truly thrive.
Through FNTC's Career Services Program, alumni are connected with internship opportunities at technology companies committed to increasing Indigenous participation and leadership in the sector. Our partnership with OneFeather is one example of what becomes possible when those opportunities are grounded in shared values, meaningful workplace experience, and Indigenous-led technology.
OneFeather recently shared the story of Brennan Rehlau, an Ojibway learner based in BC, who joined their team as an IT Intern through the program and has since transitioned into a permanent role as an IT Support Technician. His journey is a powerful illustration of what's achievable when training, mentorship, hands-on experience, and a supportive team align.
"At FNTC, our internship and mentorship programs go beyond preparing people for jobs," says Kim Henderson, Director of Digital Skills and Career Development at FNTC. "We want to ensure that Indigenous learners entering the tech sector step into workplaces where their talents are genuinely respected — and where they have real room to grow and thrive."
