We partnered with tech companies to better understand barriers to entering and advancing in the tech industry and build meaningful pathways for Indigenous talent.
Indigenous Peoples in British Columbia are building careers in technology and tech-enabled fields. However, many still face barriers to entering and growing in the industry.
Limited access to education and training, bias in hiring, and workplaces that lack meaningful inclusion of Indigenous cultures and perspectives continue to drive underrepresentation across the industry.
Between 2020 and 2026, the Technology Council partnered with four BC tech companies to better understand these barriers and how to address them.
This work highlights the importance of building long-term, trust-based relationships and concrete action that goes beyond just good intentions. That means creating work environments where Indigenous knowledge, culture, and thought leadership are valued.
The Technology Council continues to work alongside tech companies across BC to build meaningful pathways for Indigenous talent. Through training, work-integrated learning, and supported employment pathways, we're supporting long-term digital skills and career opportunities for Indigenous people in the tech sector.
